I am living in Johnson City, Tennessee attending East Tennessee State University now. I'm in their Bluegrass, Old-Time & Country Music degree program. It's really awesome and I've only been here three weeks to the day. There is a cool place here called the Down Home, an eclectic listening room for musicians. Last Saturday, Ed Snodderly, one of the owners, played there with his band The Brother Boys. I saw the SteelDrivers play on Friday night. I really liked hearing Richard Bailey play his banjo. He and Tammy Rogers would play banjo and fiddle lines note for note with each other, so cool. Her fiddle playing had chills crawling over me most of the night. Both shows were really great. I can feel the potential for myself here, it feels so good to find where you're supposed to be, and I have found a strong sense of place here.

i've decided that since my main interest in life right now is hanging out with my banjo(s) that i'll do some art with it... I did a drawing a long time ago and have somehow managed to lose possession of it's more physical form, so, i'll have to do another one. Just, better this time. that said, i've got some pictures to upload. I was pickin' along and saw some blue and red and white on my neck, reflecting on the polish, and noticed that it was the American flag i recently hung in my window after painting my walls and setting everything up... i was listening to this song on my iHome, then went online to find it... played it to see if it was it, then paused it. waited awhile and pressed play. It's playing on the same beat but about 3 minutes apart from each other, sometimes the same lick will be played at the same time... sounds wild. This album is amazing, I saw the trio play in Williamsburg sometime ago, it was great.

i found a sketchbook the other day outside of a 7-11. I saw it, went into the store, came out and it was still there. so i picked it up and have been reading through it. The guy who wrote in it has spent some serious time talking about goals and failures. I am not alone! It appears that he has graduated college and is working on a masters or PHD... his handwriting is absolutely horrendous. he has a girlfriend from Alabama and he still has zero ideas or clues as to how he will achieve any of the things he wants to do out of life. he has written that he just needs "to do" these things without the thinking part... whatever works, ya know? I think we are all just as lost as this guy and that to find the direction you want to go and have the conviction to go there and succeed in your own goals is really hard to do. This guy is obviously really struggling, he last wrote in it at the end of December, 2010. I suspect he has been missing this moleskin for awhile. He seems to be an engineer that wants to own a business. There is no information as to how to get this book back to him, so I suppose I will just try to read his atrocious chicken-scratch and learn a few more things about him, myself and the rest of humanity. i'll keep ya posted...

i woke up with a headache today for what seemed like no reason, until i checked the forecast online a couple minutes ago... could be a factor, but who really knows? it's been raining for awhile but the sun is out right now. i took a greyhound bus to Raleigh, NC on Saturday and got a truck thanks to my good friends over at USAA. Now, i can go up into the mountains when it's snowing and not blow a radiator! And i sure as hell won't hydroplane on a wet road going 35mph. it's a 2003 GMC Sierra SLE Extended Cab

i've been doing a lot and doing a lot of nothing. this summer was really eventful, and probably the longest summer i've ever had. Scratched a few things off the bucket list but there's still more left on it than I know. I still need an external hard drive. I've been taking banjo lessons. about 5 of them, i think. my teacher said that my talent was genetic and that i catch on quick. i thought that that was cool because he's played with Earl Scruggs and knows Bill Keith personally. I also have the chance to go play with Tony Trischka and learn a few things down in North Carolina in October. Tony taught Béla Fleck how to play the banjo. Recently received a new banjo, it's a Recording King R80 and it sounds better than it looks...not that i don't like the way it looks. with that a whole bunch of books to learn. it's becoming a wonderful thing in my life, and I'm happy to have so much to help me along the way. maybe i'll get an external hard drive that works and i'll be able to start this thing back up again with cooler posts...

In roughly 5 weeks time there has been little to no change on the situation in the Gulf of Mexico concerning BP's disaster of managing an oil drilling operation. I've heard several things but I've read just as many and a general consensus is that BP claimed that there was only 5,000 gallons of oil gushing daily, so don't freeaakk the fuck out it's only 5,000 gallons of oil a day. But chances are it's upwards of 6 million gallons of oil out there just ready to fuck shit up. I don't know about you, but this shit still pisses me off man. This week Obama finally had some motherfuckers go check it out and look at what its like. Granted, there are no instilled provisions of preventing such a catastrophe, so don't worry about cleaning that shit up. Right? I mean WTF are we doing? Louisiana isn't even that worried (government officials anyway) about stopping off shore drilling anytime soon. How much is it going to take to figure out that oil is not such a good thing? We probably could use something else by now, I don't get it man. I just don't know man, I just don't know...

May 22nd, 2010. Still have no plans for this summer, i have some ideas but nothing is set in stone ya know. Having no commitments means I have the ability to do whatsoever I please, which is pretty awesome. Although I've come to terms with this awesomeness it's beginning to dawn on me how much longer it will be like this (it's been about a year, now). I've done a lot of wondering but not a lot of wandering, and I know what time it is. Still hasn't really hit me that I have no clue when I will be back in Virginia again after this summer. I've got about two and a half months to have as much fun and save as much money as possible, or two and a half months to try and balance those two things... Oh, an interesting site I found today: thunderbolts.info --it's really got some cool things, and enough to have you thinking about it all for quite awhile, i'm sure. Gonna be in the OBX for about a week here shortly, looking forward to that. All Good is coming up, that should be a lot of fun. Oh, yeah if you haven't ever heard of GrooveShark, you should check it out, it's pretty nifty. As much as good as technology does and is so-called "good for" I often wonder if the pros outweigh the cons. Maybe I'm just too nomadic to know. Or wish that I was. Who knows? I'm going to block party. I love my dog. & cat. Over the course of having this blog I've come to a conclusion that people might actually read this shit, if you're reading this now you should go do something you've always wanted to do, because that's what I'm about to do. People everywhere are doing it, it's something everybody should and can do: pursue happiness; whatever happiness is for you, obtain it, cherish it, live with it, what more can you do?

I was elated to find these events documented and for the world to see on YouTube. It'd be a shame for people not to be able to see those videos. I have been playing my banjo more these days, minus a sprained wrist it's more fun than ever. I'm really getting into the tone, it feels great. Once my wrist heals I'm probably going to be spending a lot of time with my banjo hangin' on my shoulder. Couldn't be happier about that. I've also been reading a lot of naturalist writings, including a whole bunch of works by John Muir. Also, I've been reading guides of birds, trees, insects, edible plants, etc., etc.; the most important thing being that I now have an atlas of the entire United States of America and intend on using it to its fullest potential this summer. I still don't know my exact route or destination, all I know is that it's going to be an adventure of a lifetime.

Middle school and High School i was in organizations

it's always interesting to look back on your life and discover your path. Looking back, i see a trail in the woods. I wonder what other people invision, like maybe looking back and you just see a wake in the water, maybe you can't look back and all you see is the ground below you, whatever you can see its gotta be good... of course, it doesn't really matter, you're here now and thats what counts. i'm a firm believer in making your own destiny, choosing your life for yourself and creating a future to believe in. but regardless, it's nice to know that i can share parts if needed.... eventually we will all be together again, i can feel it in my bones.

work pays. work=tiresome. work is work. which is why i am where i am right now, and i'm happy again. happy i won't be doing art for a career. as much as i love art and making art and all the rest, i came to the realization that i don't need schooling for it.. i only wanted it for some unbeknownst reason. i'd rather keep it simple for my own sake and do it for the enjoyment and relaxation of the process rather than crunching out art to put food on my plate. dig? looks like colorado may have to wait until fall '10. money, money, money.. money... money. i need a car, so.. yeah. gonna need that. that's where i'm at: saving money for the dream, man.. saving money for the dream...

i noticed some fancy footwork, apparently some famous person was born today. I was unaware of that. Then, I found out this cool place that is literally minutes away from where i'll be staying in a couple months.. All of the sudden i felt obliged to look up some things about the holy mountain. Mainly because I watched it last night for the upteenth time. REall y a good movie, i recommend it. I've been doing a lot of kickflips lately, they feel good when the board wraps up around your back foot and you hear that pup! when you catch 'em.. ahhh.. hopefully that dude gets someone to cover his shift at ihop.

fairwell, lady richmond. I'm off to seek new horizons, for the love of my life. I will not forget the good, the bad or the ugly times I had in Richmond, much less Virginia. I will be off to Colorado within the year I'm hoping. We will see. If not, before next summer indeed. Off to the Rockies where I will be starting all over again, gotta love that start.. It's a brisk, fast paced thrill. Then it becomes a long steady pace full of bursts that make the original thrill come back into motion and eventually prepares you for that long-haul home. Word.

it was quite spur of the moment, then i remembered if it rained maybe i'd get to skate project58 like all those cool post22 kids! and it rained, so i did. props to gilbert shredding that place, the handrail was fun though. very mellow, but hard to get speed, with 7 bearings... plus, there were mad groms. what did i expect? it was raining.

that said, better go skateboarding if it's not raining sunday

i rode my bike for quite sometime. during my ride i stopped over a bridge, where a train was coming toward me with the interstate on either side of the train. i decided to wait for it to come right underneath me. the conductor waved at me just before he went under the bridge, and gave a little toot. the inertia i felt from the train underneath me was enormous, it felt so awesome. plus all the cars going and coming looked cool as the train extended farther than i could see in both directions from the bridge i was on... last year i was up late working on some afo project and i was outside taking a break, i remember hearing a train off in the distance and decided that if or when i retire.. i should become a train conductor. the other day i wrote in my sketchbook to "just become a train conductor and end all your troubles & woes." i'd much rather drive a train than hop on one.

Right so, I figured that since I knew so much about the guy with one leg and a hairy tooth, I decided I'd let you guys in on the inside scoop. So the dude had this thingy by a river over there, and then when his horse died the car started, which meant he could get some corn for his cat that had lukemia. Then after his cat died, he was really blue, so he drank some Coke and felt better. His wife was having a cow when he decided he wanted some steak, so they never had any children, but his daughter-in-law was great. His ruby ring broke one morning and that was the day that a car hit a snail. When God came down to save it, he tripped and an earth quake occured in the middle of nowhere so it was marvy. After awhile people suspected the earth really was flat. The Power Rangers came back and cought some Pokémon, then that one little yellow piece of paper fell. The next day, the paper clip turned to the staple and said, "Ouch". The man never felt so horrible, he was rich, happy and had a great family. In church one sunday, a turtle killed himself by swinging like tarzan from a dangling electric cord, after this the man was really sad, and paid homage to the turtle by killing the church congregation. That was when the man also started to fast. He didn't even eat dirt for days on end, then one day he went to McDonalds and ate the whole menu. His wife died and he said it was pleasant not having her around anymore, even though she never really cheated on him, he was sent to prison for a day where he was butt raped by a small asian man. When he got home he was feeling quite refreshed and decided to eat a snickers. He dreamed about the time he saw the blue unicorn that hopped the golden fry that he earned as a high scoring player in a tetris tournament, he won that when the parapalegic gave way and croaked way up in Alaska. He woke up floating in his room, then after that he fell off this river that ran from under his house to panama. There near after a car sank in it. When he was done shaving he accidently growled and barked at a squirrel in the mirror. Thank you for wanting to know the story, now that you know it, tell everyone about that yellow bug that smashed into the bowl with that green stuff.

i keep forgetting a post i was gonna post. it was such a good idea at the time., ohhhh i remember. check it out, i'll get it up here later. until now you'll have to read this dream i had last night.

I was sitting in a field someplace with a couch, coffee table, and a TV on a stand, when all of the sudden some old woman came walking by with other people and then she threw up a few steps after passing. I was terribly upset and walked away, upwards toward a fence and chucked. My roommate Tim came out of nowhere and asked me if I was okay, and laughing I told him my throw up was by the fence. I don't remember seeing him in my dream again. Then, the next thing I can really remember is I was hanging out with an old friend named Sarah, and there was this ship that was sinking, and we had equipment to get that was in it but if we traveled down to the ship to get the info it'd kill us, so we skipped out on that and went back to my house, where all we could do was be awkward.. but before that we were trying to get into this building on Broad St. I think, and there were a ton of people but we couldn't get in for some reason. But when we were at my house everything was funny, and then I remembered I had to go to Italy and I woke up

The weather was beautiful in Savannah,

the drinks were superb,

and the ideas came a-floatin'.

Colorado was amazing. Pure and simple. The air was crisp, the views were magnificent, and the people were humble. for the most part anyway. The powder was probably my favorite part.. especially weaving in and out between trees going down gnarly slopes. compared to out here on the east coast, they were pretty gnarly. i had the time of my life out there, wish i had money for that sport though. So, been doing some reading.. check this out: "In considering other types of contemporary images of man, therefore, we must remember that when social milieu and social responsibility are not stressed, they are not, for all that, absent. They are only bracketed for the sake of focusing on the types of response to the situations of our time which have been pointed to as most necessary, most meaningful, and most hopeful." So imagine that. I got a new bicycle, it's a lot better ride than a beach cruiser for the city. Plus, it's yellow. I wanna go, I wanna travel, I wanna see the world and I'm stuck. for now?

So, currently in the Denver airport.. had a few troubles early today, like waking up and getting to the airport to catch a fucking plane but. nonetheless. here i am about to catch a plane to ASPEN! it's supposed to be around 20 all week and snowing. I'm not excited. haaaaaaaa.. shiyat bitch. break a leg, right? i will get some photos of my travels.. this airport is huge btw.
